Franchising, the new tool for international cooperation

  AFAEMME is working in the project called “MED FRANCHISE” in partnership with the Association of Businesswomen of Morocco (AFEM), the Jordan Forum for Business & Professional Women (BPWA), the Egyptian Business Women Association (EBWA) and the Association of Slovenian Women Entrepreneurs (GIZ PODJETNOST).

The project, coordinated by the Ljubljana Regional Chamber of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, tries to develop the participation of businesswomen organizations in the process of exchanging partnership initiatives by using the franchise model as a tool of international cooperation, business exchange and Foreign Direct Investment towards the Mediterranean region.

With this action plan, the involved associations want to contribute to an international study on the position of women in business in the participating countries and promote franchising as a tool for international business exchange.

The main activities to be carried out by the partners during 2009 are: making a study on the industries and sectors that operate with franchises throughout the Mediterranean region and their potential in the future: organizing a thematic workshop on franchises, establishing a permanent desk in the Lujbljana Chamber to answer and dispatch queries; create an official webpage for the MED FRANCHISE project and write a guide, in the national languages of the participating countries, to inform about franchising in the Mediterranean region.

Mª Helena de Felipe Lethonen, President of AFAEMME, will participate in the upcoming meeting of the EC’s Women’s Network

The President of the Association of Mediterranean Businesswomen (AFAEMME), and Member of the European Commission’s Network of Women in Decision - Making in Politics and Economy, will participate in the upcoming meeting of the Network, which will take place in Brussels on 3rd April.

The event will discuss the topics of role models and participants will analyze the different roles and behaviours associated with the female gender, that difficult the overcoming of differences between men and women in the labour market. These differences, constructed by society, become the social stereotypes that hinder the development and growth of women in the professional field.

AFAEMME becomes member of the Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures

AFAEMME has been invited to participate as a member of the "Anna Lindh Foundation: Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures. In this way, the Association of Mediterranean Businesswomen will contribute to the promotion of dialogue between cultures and will help identify, develop and promote areas of cultural convergence to promote tolerance, cultural understanding to avoiding stereotypes, xenophobia and racism among Euro-Mediterranean countries.

The Association of Mediterranean Businesswomen organized last 19th February the Seminar-Workshop "Adding Value, Breaking Stereotypes" in Barcelona. Two main topics were targeted in this event: gender equality related to business profits and gender equality as a competitive advantage for Europe.

The event was attended by personalities from the business world, business creation, program coordinators for equal opportunities, presidents of associations, gender experts and decision makers of administrations and institutions of the Government of Catalonia.

The seminar, which was inaugurated by the President of AFAEMME, Mrs. Mª Helena de Felipe Lehtonen and the President of FEPIME Catalunya, Mr. Eusebi Cima i Mollet, had as speakers Mrs. Carme Sánchez Martín, Director of the Promotion and Development Unit of the General Department for Equal Opportunities in Labour Market of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Ms. Elizabeth Villagomez Morales, Gender and Business Expert of AFAEMME and Mrs. Beatriz Fdez-Tubau Rodés, Legal Adviser of AFAEMME.

The event was also attended by thirty women belonging to organizations of SMEs and gender in Catalonia, among whom were the President of “Women for the Democracy and freedom”, Mrs. Joaquina Alemany i Roca, the Head of Participation of “Establishment and Governorship for the use of time of the Municipal Information Centre for women”, Mrs. Alvira Merche Latorre, President of the “Cultural Association of CETRES”, Mrs. Fields Tin Caron, the Head of “Service Creation of Business”, Ms. Nuria Fontcuberta Sola; President of ASSEP ,the” Professional Association Secretariat”, Ms. Rosa Pagès i Martín, Director of the “Space for Equality”, Mrs. Marta Mas Perulles, the General Director of the “Association of Health and Family”, Ms. Elvira Méndez Méndez, Head of the “Cabinet for Economic Studies of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Carme Miró i Aspa, the Chairperson of the “Women's Democracy Association”, Ms. Navarrete Eva Izquierdo, the President of “National Council of Women of Spain”, Ms. M ª Lluïsa Oliveda Puig, President of the “European Women's Management Development Network – Barcelona”, Elizabeth Trallero Santamaría and Mrs. Inma Valls i Lloret, Head of the “Trade Union for Gender Equality of Catalonia”.
