2002 was the year of our official launch. After our meetings in the diverse regions and countries of the Mediterranean, we have managed to unite our forces and found, in July of this year, AFAEMME (Association of Organisations of Mediterranean Businesswomen).

On the 17th of September, we celebrated the official inauguration, with the assistance of the Vice-President and Economic Minister and actually International Monetary Found Director Mr. Rodrigo Rato, as well as the Head of the Catalonian Government Mr. Artur Mas and the President of the Union of the biggest corporations in Catalonia Mr. Juan Rosell.

This has served to provide us with institutional support and empowered us to develop and present distinct projects of International Mediterranean cooperation.

We will continue, thanks to your support, with eagerness to bring projects, which we have been developing, to fruition. These, together with the promotion of qualified and managerial businesswomen, are the main priorities of our Association.

The ultimate objective of AFAEMME is to reunite the Associations and Federations of businesswomen and executives, established in the Mediterranean Basin, and to represent its Associations and Federations in their will to promote and coordinate activities, connected to their common objectives, tending towards:

1. Contributing to the cultural development of women in business and women in general and aid in their integral training, and making them aware of their responsibilities, with the objective of a large number of women having the conditions to fully exercise their role.
   
   
2. Promoting work equality and improving conditions for women in terms of their socio-economic and professional lives, eliminating all discrimination.
   
   
3. Promoting the development of relations among businesswomen of the Mediterranean Basin, to maintain a permanent closeness between them and especially within the frame of International Treaties, and those countries to which the Associations and Federations of FAEMME belong.
   
   
4. Coordinate the fragmented efforts of the distinct and diverse Associations and Federations of Businesswomen in the Mediterranean Basin, which are related to progress and advancement, promoting common activities and projects which multiply the day to day efforts and actions for objectives and specific tasks, overcoming isolation and increasing the potential for solidarity.
   
   
5. Promote opportunities to the Associations and Federations, which allow them training and capacitate leadership and support those already in this position so that they are able to collaborate efficiently in the distinct societal activities.
   
   
6. Exercise influence on public opinion by way of acts, campaigns and lobbying to authorities, with the objective of perfecting the legal, social and business conditions for women.
   
   
7. Cooperating internationally in development aimed at the integration of the principle of equal opportunities between men and women.
