Ceremony for a European Recognition of the Mediterranean Arch

Next May 7th 2010 the Ignasi Villalonga Institute of Economy and Enterprises will hold the “Ceremony for a European Recognition of the Mediterranean Arch”, an event by which they want to rise awareness between the European Commission on a greater consideration of the Mediterranean area when establishing which projects will be financed for improving transport infrastructures in Europe.

The Institute has managed to place the EURAM White Book on Infrastructures as a document to be considered for the Green Paper that European institutions will use for rethinking the European transports network. Furthermore, the European Union has accepted to study with more detail the economic and social potential of the Mediterranean Area.

The event is another opportunity for convincing the European institutions on the great qualitative value that the Mediterranean Area might represent for all Europe.

The 54th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

On March 1st to 12th 2010, during its 54th session, the Commission on the Status of Women , a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women, will undertake a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly.

The event is being prepared by CSW together with all five United Nations Regional Commissions and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and will pursue the sharing, among United Nations Member States and representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities, of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. A series of parallel events will provide additional opportunities for information exchange and networking.

The NGO CSW is a Committee of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations which advocates for the adoption of programs and policies that will advance the economic, political, legal, health and educational status of women worldwide and promotes women’s rights and gender equality-cornerstones of the United Nations Charter.

The main aim of this Forum, entitled “Through Her Eyes: Renewing Commitment to Equality, Peace and Development”, is to consider implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA).

Mission of Moroccans entrepreneurs in Barcelona

From April 4th to April 11th AFAEMME will receive - in Barcelona, Spain - a mission formed by 11 Moroccans female entrepreneurs who were trained throughout the year 2007 in a business incubator located in Casablanca, Morocco.

During their stay, AFAEMME will contact these entrepreneurs with five Catalan businesswomen in order to support Mediterranean business networking. This entrepreneurial mission also includes two seminars: the first one, on Business Motivation, will be imparted by Mrs. Beatriz Fdez-Tubau, AFAEMME’s legal adviser and the second one “How to make businesses in Spain” will be given by AFAEMME’s International Relations Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Trallero. Apart from the above mentioned seminars, the entrepreneurs will be received by the Director of Internationalisation of “Foment del Treball” and FEPIME Catalunya, Mr. David Tornos.

Invitation to the Celebration of the International Women's Day 2008
Thursday, 6 March 2008, Brussels

The International Women's Day will be celebrated by the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament on Thursday, 6 March 2008. Representatives of the Network of Parliamentary Committees for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in the European Union (NCEO) will participate actively in the meeting.

The Day will start with a conference on "The role of women in the intercultural dialogue". It will be the occasion to hear women from different parts of the world on the subject. Mr Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, will open the conference.

Thereafter, a seminar on "Gender mainstreaming in parliamentary work" will concentrate on the presentation of best practices by delegations from national Parliaments and Members of the European Parliament.

The conference and the seminar will be chaired by Dr. Anna Záborská, Chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality.

1st INTERNATIONAL FAIR OF WOMEN'S ENTREPRENEURSHIP
CROATIA, PULA, Hotel HISTRIA , 16th -18th November 2007

The organization of ECONOMICA, the first international fair that brings together activities and companies run by women and younger people who are owners, directors.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • encouraging women's entrepreneurship, as well as that of young people, directly and specifically through public appearance at this fair aiming at the presentation of products and services
  • providing an opportunity to emerge from anonymity by such a fair, offering counselling on the culture of fairs, ways of presentation
  • enabling business presentation and finding new markets
  • the fair is a place for negotiating and doing business, sharing business experience
  • informing the market of women's achievements and creativity, as well as activity of young people
  • business communication, economic education at thematic lectures, round table discussions and workshops by participating at the 2nd BPW Danube Net business Forum
  • networking with businessmen from European countries
  • lobbying and connecting in the interest of reinforcing entrepreneurship
  • making such an event a traditional one and turning ECONOMICA into a meeting place for women entrepreneurs in this part of Europe and beyond.
