2nd International Forum on Women Entrepreneurship

2nd – 3rd December 2011, Sofia (Bulgaria)

The Second International Forum on Women Entrepreneurship is jointly organised by the Bulgarian Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE) and Business & Professional Women Sofia (BPW Sofia). Co-organizers of the event are: the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism, the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the Sofia Municipality.

The International Forum on Women Entrepreneurship aims at encouraging ladies’ business leadership and at popularising their active presence at managerial positions among the business circles as well as among the general public, by means of presenting, from one part, the activity of the companies they are in charge of, and from the other - by subjecting to discussion women entrepreneurship’s topics of present interest. To this end, the event will run in two different aspects – the one, being a discussion forum and the other – b2b meeting.

Among the Forum invitees are foreign organisations of women entrepreneurs, most of which coming from Europe, as well from Balkan region. Leading Bulgarian and international companies managed by ladies will be presented as well.

Interreg IVC Winnet 8 Capitalisation Project – Dissemination Seminar

2011 Women's Forum Global Meeting

From the 13th until the 15th of October, Deauville (France) will host the 7th edition of the Women’s Forum Global Meeting.

The Women’s Forum for the Economy and the Society has chosen for its 7th edition to draw inspiration from the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, the earthquake in Japan and other events which have knocked the axis of the world we took for granted and to hold the 2011 Global Meeting on the theme “What if?: Challenge, imagination, commitment”. Workshop on the Role of Businesswomen in the Economies and Societies of the Arab Region – Gulf Research Meeting

July 6-9 2011, Cambridge University, Cambridge (UK)

This workshop aims at making a distinct contribution to the existing literature not only by bringing together recent and innovative research on female entrepreneurship in the Arab world and the Gulf countries in particular.

The workshop intends to go beyond the rather limited theoretical and analytical framework guiding previous research on business women in the Middle East and North African by linking it with the broader debate on the private sector proper in the Arab countries on the one hand and with the general topic on “Women and Development” on the other hand.

It is hoped that papers to be presented in the workshop will also offer new insights for a better understanding of the above mentioned contrasting views and assessments of the role of businesswomen in the economies and societies of the Arab world.

Second Qatar International Businesswomen Forum

The second Qatar International Businesswomen Forum will be held in Doha, Qatar on May 17 - 18, 2011 and is organized by the Qatari Business Women Association and Interactive Business Network-IBN.

11th Forum of the Adriatic and Ionian Chambers of Commerce

Training workshops about diversity and equality

February 24-27, Madrid (Spain)

EU FRA, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, and the Media Diversity Institute will organize in Madrid (24-27 February) free training workshops based on "instruments and solutions about diversity".

The workshops will be based on a Diversity Toolkit developed by the FRA in cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and their main aim of the workshops is to improve the way that journalism professionals report diversity and make them understand that by supporting cultural diversity they can gain new sectors of audience.

AFAEMME will award the best woman led start-up at the ANIMA MedVentures Award ceremony

Next December 3rd, MedVentures, an initiative by ANIMA Investment Network, will award in Marseille (France) the top 3 MedVentures start-ups selected among the 100 best innovative start-ups that were preselected in 10 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. Global Entrepreneurs Week 2010

Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program (WEL)

The American University in Cairo and the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania will offer just after Ramadan the Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program (WEL), a five week-long business and management certificated program specifically for women in the region.

Instruction will be in Arabic and participants who do not live in Cairo will be provided housing at in the dormitories of the campus of the American University in Cairo.

Ceremony for a European Recognition of the Mediterranean Arch

Next May 7th 2010 the Ignasi Villalonga Institute of Economy and Enterprises will hold the “Ceremony for a European Recognition of the Mediterranean Arch”, an event by which they want to rise awareness between the European Commission on a greater consideration of the Mediterranean area when establishing which projects will be financed for improving transport infrastructures in Europe.

The Institute has managed to place the EURAM White Book on Infrastructures as a document to be considered for the Green Paper that European institutions will use for rethinking the European transports network. Furthermore, the European Union has accepted to study with more detail the economic and social potential of the Mediterranean Area.

The event is another opportunity for convincing the European institutions on the great qualitative value that the Mediterranean Area might represent for all Europe.

The 54th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

On March 1st to 12th 2010, during its 54th session, the Commission on the Status of Women , a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women, will undertake a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly.

The event is being prepared by CSW together with all five United Nations Regional Commissions and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and will pursue the sharing, among United Nations Member States and representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities, of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. A series of parallel events will provide additional opportunities for information exchange and networking.

Mission of Moroccans entrepreneurs in Barcelona

From April 4th to April 11th AFAEMME will receive - in Barcelona, Spain - a mission formed by 11 Moroccans female entrepreneurs who were trained throughout the year 2007 in a business incubator located in Casablanca, Morocco.

During their stay, AFAEMME will contact these entrepreneurs with five Catalan businesswomen in order to support Mediterranean business networking. This entrepreneurial mission also includes two seminars: the first one, on Business Motivation, will be imparted by Mrs. Beatriz Fdez-Tubau, AFAEMME’s legal adviser and the second one “How to make businesses in Spain” will be given by AFAEMME’s International Relations Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Trallero. Invitation to the Celebration of the International Women's Day 2008

The International Women's Day will be celebrated by the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament on Thursday, 6 March 2008. Representatives of the Network of Parliamentary Committees for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in the European Union (NCEO) will participate actively in the meeting.

The Day will start with a conference on "The role of women in the intercultural dialogue". It will be the occasion to hear women from different parts of the world on the subject. Mr Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, will open the conference.
