The VIII meeting of the European Network of Women in Decision-Making in Politics and the Economy took place in Brussels on the 22nd of June.

This meeting was mainly focused on the issue of engaging men to advance in gender diversity.

In this sense Mrs. Irene Natividad, President of the Global Summit of Women and member of the Network, has suggested some interesting key actions in order to achieve the engagement of men:

  • To create the figure of a Chief Diversity Officer to connect with senior male and female officers in making change happen
  • To offer an economic incentive for compliance or for being a leader in the diversity effort
  • To create an Executive Diversity Council chaired by the CEO and that meets regularly to gauge progress, assess initiatives and develop ideas for new programs. The chairing CEO signalizes the seriousness with which the company views this issue
  • To create work/life benefits as available for men as for women. This policy would eliminate the stigma of women employees taking time off for their family responsibilities

During the Network’s sessions, Mrs. De Felipe, AFAEMME’s President, met Mr. Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea, Director for Equality at the DG Justice of the European Commission.
