Women in Turkey

Be Hamide Er

By taking the occasion of having a Turkish trainee, AFAEMME is going to offer some insights about the situation of women in Turkey by publishing a series of news items about this topic. This is the fourth post of this series. We hope you enjoy it!

Working in the automobile manufacturing industry is always associated with men. It is thought that men are more able to carry out this “heavy work” successfully than women. What if we tell you that in Samsun, a city in Black Sea region in Turkey, 173 women work in a factory where heavy goods vehicle products are manufactured? What if we tell you that production chief of the factory is also a woman? Hamide Er, the chief of the factory says: “As I say to people that I work in automobile industry, first they get surprised and after they admires it.” The products manufactured in the factory are sent more than 100 countries from all around the world as well.

Women are nearly consisted of the %20 of the total number workers of the factory. It is pretty great percentage actually, as it is considered that in the city the percentage of working women is not that so high.

Be courageous and do not let anyone tell you that you cannot do your dream job, since it is “for men”.

Be women who work in automobile industry.

Be Hamide Er.

Be all the women who try to make their voice heard in male-dominant job sectors.
